Gamers' Choice: 25 Most Popular Mobile Phones for Games of 2007

February 4, 2008, Victoria, Canada: Who makes the best mobile phones for games? Which cell phones are the most used for playing games? MobileRated can answer these questions definitively using statistics from their global game portal at http://www.mobilerated.com/.

Given that developers must create multiple game builds to support hundreds of handsets, it is valuable information to know which devices are most popular. It is the kind of information we want to put in the hands of our developers and our customers as well. Playing games on the better handsets is noticibly more enjoyable than on handsets where games were merely an afterthought. For developers, it is one thing to know which handsets have the most functionality, but at the end of the day, knowing which phones are actually used for games is much more important."

Nokia is far and away the most popular manufacturer for game players, with a 43% share. Not surprising considering the global dominance of Nokia in handsets generally. Second place is SonyEricsson with a 25% share followed by Motorola and Samsung with 12% and 8% respectively. LG and RIM capture 2% share each with no other manufacturer registering as much as 1%. Nokia and SonyEricsson far and away produced the most popular cell phone models used by game players in 2007. From the top 25, Nokia owned the top 3 spots and 12 phone models. SonyEricsson had 9 mobile phones in the top 25 listing, leaving Motorola 2 spots and Samsung and Research in Motion a single spot each.
